An outdoor classroom and walking trails for the Boys & Girls Club of Daleville took a step closer to reality during the Dale County Commission meeting March 8.
At the meeting the commission unanimously approved the request of Dale County Commissioner Donald Grantham for $1,876.57 to clear the land behind the Boys & Girls Clubhouse on Donnell Boulevard in Daleville.
The funding will be used to clear the small trees and thick underbrush in the woods behind and along the sides of the building, according to B&G Club of Daleville Site Director April Spencer. “This is the first step in clearing an area in the back of the building to put in a playground,” she said. “We would also like to put an outdoor classroom and walking trails in the future.”
“Thank you to our Dale County Commissioners and Commissioner Grantham for their continued support as we all continue working together to ensure that great futures do indeed start here,” said Joel Adams following the vote.
Adams is the chairman of the board of directors for the club that opened in 2020 and the driving force behind the project that transformed the former Boy Scout Hut on Donnell Boulevard into a viable children’s after school program. “This project will give us the much needed space for an outdoor recreation area.
“A day of new beginnings, new opportunities for not only our children but also our parents and our community,” Adams said as he welcomed those attending the official ribbon cutting of the club Oct. 30, 2020. “We will strive to provide a positive place for our children, a safe, structured environment that many children need and want but it’s going to take all of us working together.”
The next meeting of the Dale County Commission is Tuesday, April 12, at the government building in Ozark. A work session begins at 10 a.m. and is followed immediately by a voting meeting. Both meetings are open to the public.
