This week Enterprise native Marcus Jones became the first Houston player to earn consensus All-America honors since 2018.
A consensus All-American is a player that has earned first-team All-America honors on at least half of the recognized All-America teams from around the country.
Jones has already been named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Special Teams Player of the Year and won the Parul Hornung Award. ProFootballFocus also presented Jones with their own version of the Paul Hornung Award.
He earned first-team All-America honors from the Associated Press as a defensive back, as a kick returner from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and ESPN, as an all-purpose player from CBS Sports and The Athletic and as a kick returner from The Sporting News. He also earned second-team honors as a cornerback and punt returner from CBS Sports and as a kick returner from the Walter Camp Foundation.
Jones has become just the ninth Houston player to ever earn consensus All-America honors, a feat that was previously accomplished by former Heisman winner Andre Ware and first round NFL Draft Picks like Ed Oliver, Leonard Mitchell, Wilson Whitley and Elmo Wright.
Jones was selected to play in the 2022 Senior Bowl, which takes place in February, and is projected to be drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. Jones would become just the second player in Enterprise history to be drafted, joining legendary fullback Cedric Smith who was drafted in the fifth round of the 1990 NFL Draft.
