This past weekend, Daleville High School played host to its annual Daleville Christmas Basketball tournament featuring Daleville, Geneva County, Carroll, Abbeville, Ariton and Pike County.
On Dec. 9, Daleville lost to Pike County in the opening round of the tournament by a score of 40-24. The Warhawks scored just two points in the entire first half – and none in the second quarter – as Pike County surged out to a 24-2 halftime lead.
The Warhawks managed to scrape their way back into the game in the second half outscoring Pike County 13-4 in the third quarter and ending the period on a 9-0 run to cut the Bulldog lead to 28-15 going into the fourth quarter.
The Warhawks managed to cut the lead down to eight points early in the fourth quarter before Pike County finished the game on a 7-0 run to secure the win.
Senior Bryan Beckwith led Daleville with 10 points in the loss, while sophomore Moses McDowell added five points.
In other first round matchups, Abbeville defeated 77-56 and Carroll beat Geneva County 74-55 in a dunk fest.
In the semifinals, Abbeville beat Pike County 55-44 and Carroll knocked off Ariton, who received a bye in the first round, by a score of 60-52 on Dec. 10.
On Dec. 11, in non-tournament games Pike County beat Ariton 46-44 and Daleville fell to Geneva 49-37.
Geneva jumped out to a 16-7 lead going into the second quarter and took a 27-14 lead into halftime. Daleville cut the lead to 41-30 going into the fourth quarter but Geneva still managed to outscore Daleville 8-7 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Beckwith led Daleville again with 23 points, while McDowell added eight points for the Warhawks.
Carroll went on to win the tournament championship with a 77-60 win over Abbeville. Bryson Dawkins led Carroll with 25 points, while Takoda McLeod added 21 points.
Daleville hosts Samson on Dec. 16.
