Less than a week after falling just short of beating nationally ranked Shelton State, the Enterprise State Boll Weevils (2-6) picked up a big 82-79 win over the Albany Tech Titans on Dec. 6 at home.
Albany Tech – who had just missed being ranked in the Top 25 in the nation – came into the game with a 9-2 record. Albany Tech beat ESCC back on Nov. 11 by a score of 89-67.
Albany Tech held a 39-35 lead at halftime but the Boll Weevils outscored Albany Tech 47-40, including a 12-0 run at one point, in the second half.
Abbeville native Jaquan Kinsey – who is tied for third in rebounding in the ACCC – led ESCC with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in his fifth double-double of the season. Montgomery’s Jalen Gaston is currently tied for third in the ACCC in scoring and he finished with 14 points and seven rebounds against Albany Tech. Dothan’s James Pouncy Jr. scored 12 points.
Patrick Littlejohn came off the bench with 13 points and Brydon Whitaker added seven points and four rebounds.
The Boll Weevils will close out the 2021 portion of the schedule at home on Dec. 17 against No. 3-ranked Chipola College at 6:30 p.m. ACCC conference play begins in January.
The Lady Weevils also picked up their first win of the season on Dec. 6 against Albany Tech by a score of 83-79. ESCC was hot from the start taking a 20-17 lead into the second quarter and a 41-32 halftime lead.
Albany Tech managed to cut the ESCC lead to 59-58 going into the fourth quarter but the Lady Weevils outscored the Lady Titans 24-21 in the final period to secure the win.
Zaykeria Johnson led ESCC with 22 points and nine rebounds in the win. Geneva’s Jesslyn Culverhouse added 18 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Erin Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed three steals.
The Lady Weevils are done with the 2021 portion of the schedule and return to action on Jan. 6, 2022 against Chattahoochee Valley Community College on the road.
