Co. Rd. 411

A portion of County Road 411 outside of Elba will be vacated by the county.

The Coffee County Commission officially passed a resolution to vacate a portion of County Road 411 outside of Elba at the Dec. 13 commission meeting.

In October 2020 the commission received a petition from a landowner in Elba to have the last 760 feet of County Road 411 vacated, which would allow the property owner to limit access to that section of the road where he owns land. County Road 411 is a dirt road just outside the city limits of Elba that leads down to the older Pea River Power Company Hydroelectric Dam.

In December 2020, the commission heard from two local residents that objected to the vacation, along with members of PowerSouth who asked to be given a chance to work out an agreement with the landowner that would give them access to property that PowerSouth owns. County engineer Marty Lentz said that PowerSouth and the landowner had come to an agreement.

A second public hearing was held on Dec. 13 but no one chose to speak at the hearing. The commission unanimously approved the request to vacate the portion of the road.

The commission also received a petition to vacate a portion of County Road 173. The commission will hold a public hearing in the future – which will be publically advertised – about the possible vacation of that road, as well.

Additionally, the commission approved a quote from Glenwood Forest Products to cut timber at the Coffee County Landfill. The commission also approved the purchase of a number of herbicides for the county. Red River Specialists will provide both surfactant at a cost of $2,188 and Glyphosate for $2,680. Rusty’s Feed and Seed will provide the county with 2,4-D for $9,360.

The commission also approved a bid from S&P Communications to outfit a new sheriff’s office vehicle at the cost of $5,021.

The county’s offices will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 27 for Christmas, but county garbage pickup will remain unchanged.
