The Alabama State Games officially gets underway this week as Coffee, Dale and Houston Counties host the 38th annual event that features a number of different sporting events.

The opening ceremony takes place at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan at 3 p.m. on June 11 with events beginning after that and continuing on through June 13.

Enterprise, Daleville, Ozark, Fort Rucker and Dothan will all host events during the State Games. Competitions set to take place include track and field, shooting competitions, outdoor volleyball, martial arts, a 5K race, baseball, basketball, archery, bowling, disc golf, pickleball, gymnastics, baton twirling, soccer, swimming and wrestling.

Enterprise was scheduled to host both flag football and a softball tournament but those events were cancelled. Enterprise High School will host the track and field and air rifle events beginning on June 12, however. The track and field event will begin at 8 a.m. on June 12. The air rifle and bb gun tournament begins at 7 a.m. at the JRTOC Course at EHS.

Daleville was scheduled to host a cornhole tournament but it was cancelled. Instead, Culpepper Park will play host to an outdoor four vs. four volleyball tournament beginning June 12 at 9 a.m. The volleyball tournament will feature four different divisions with girls 13U, girls 15U, girls 17U and a co-ed division for 18 and up. The Tri-State Gun Club in Daleville will host a pistol and rifle competition on June 12 beginning at 9:15 a.m.

The Ozark Civic Center will host a taekwondo tournament on June 12 and Carroll High School will host both the basketball tournament and baseball tournament on June 12. The basketball tournament begins at 8 a.m. and the baseball tournament begins at 9 a.m. at Eagle Stadium with the championship games taking place on June 13. The 5K Race takes place on June 12 at 7 a.m. at Ed Lisenby Lake in Ozark. Ages eight and up can compete in the race. The taekwondo tournament begins at 10 a.m. with competitions including forms, sparring and board breaking.

Shotgun skeet shooting will take place on June 12 at the Fort Rucker Skeet Club beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Archery will be held June 12 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds beginning at 9:15 a.m. Baton twirling will take place at the Dothan Civic Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. on June 12. The bowling tournaments begin at 9 a.m. on June 12 for individual competition and 2 p.m. for team competition. Both tournaments will take place at Patricia Lanes in Dothan.

The disc golf tournament starts at 9 a.m. on June 12 at the disc golf course at Eastgate Park in Dothan. The gymnastics competition will be held on June 12 at 8 a.m. at United Gymnastics and Cheer in Dothan. Pickleball will be held beginning on June 11 at 9 a.m. and continues through June 13. Those events will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and Wiregrass Recreation Center in Dothan. The soccer tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 12 at the Westgate Soccer Complex in Dothan.

The swimming competition begins at 9 a.m. on June 12 at Dothan Aquatics and the wrestling tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 12 at Dothan Prep. Wrestling divisions will include folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman.
