New Brockton senior softball pitcher McKenlie Jerkins announced on July 11 that she had committed to accept a scholarship offer from Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC).
Jerkins, who is going into her senior season in 2022, earned a 14-7 winner in the circle as a starting pitcher. She earned 71 strikeouts in 108 innings with a 3.6 ERA. She also boasted a .300 batting average with 19 RBIs.
“(CVCC coach) Garry (Miller) is a really good coach and I just think they have a really good program there,” Jerkins said of her decision to commit to CVCC.
Jerkins said that New Brockton coach Wade Hussey has meant a lot to her softball career.
“He’s really pushed me to be my best and has never given up on me no matter how hard times have gotten,” Jerkins said. “I’m really blessed to have him as a part of my softball career. He’s meant a lot to me.”
Jerkins said that she hadn’t sat down and thought about what her college goals will be just yet, but has one goal for her senior high school season in mind.
“It’s one of those things where it’s still so surreal to me,” Jerkins said. “I’ve been working my whole life to be able to (play in college) and now I sit back on it and think, ‘Wow, it’s actually happening to me.’ I’ll sit down and make some goals for myself in college in the future.
“For my senior year, I would really like for our high school softball team to make it to state. That’s a big goal for all of us.”
