The Enterprise City Schools Board of Education held a special called meeting on July 13 and approved a number of new personnel actions and the purchase of new equipment for various schools.

The board approved the purchase of a new crew cab maintenance truck from the lowest bidder, which was Ed Sherling Ford. Interim Superintendent Dr. Zel Thomas said that the school system would sell one of its current maintenance trucks and replace that one with this new truck.

The board also approved the purchase of a SP3040 Infield Machine for the new baseball and softball complex at Enterprise High School at the cost of $21,888.97. This machine “grooms” the infield of baseball and softball fields.

Also, the board approved the purchase of a Ventrac slope mower at the cost of $30,724.27 for use at all schools, which is made specifically to mow grass on steep slopes and embankments. Thomas said that when he saw the cost of the mower he looked into other options but found that Ventrac was the only company that makes these style of mowers.

“We have some steep slopes – at Pinedale (Elementary) especially – that if you’re riding a zero turn (mower) it’s not ideal and it’s not safe,” Thomas said. “Also, the baseball field will have a nice slope behind it and we will be able to use it there and any other campuses that have steep slopes like that.”

Additionally, the board approved the purchase of new I-Ready progress monitoring software for the junior high schools from Curriculum Associations at the cost of $63,740.

Field trip requests from the junior highs, an out-of-state trip request from the EHS band program to compete at the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta, Ga., in-state trip requests from EHS volleyball and an in-state trip request from the Beta Club to attend the 2022 Beta Club Convention in Birmingham were also all approved. The 2021 fall sports schedule was also approved.

Also, a number of personnel actions were approved and are listed below. The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be held at the central office on July 27 at 5 p.m.
