The New Brockton Lady Gamecocks began the month of March off on the right foot with a win over Zion Chapel 16-15 on March 1 and another win March 3 over Northside Methodist 16-7.
The Lady Gamecocks won the game over Zion Chapel with a walk-off single by Shelby Hobbs in the bottom of the seventh.
New Brockton led 4-0 at the end of three innings but Zion Chapel came back scoring 5 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead. The Lady Gamecocks wouldn’t have it and scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to go back up 6-5. However, Zion Chapel scored 10 more runs in innings five, six and seven but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Gamecocks plated 10 runs of their own to claim the win 16-15.
Jordny Thornton started New Brockton on the mound pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up 12 runs off 5 hits while striking out 3. Keirsten Sunday took over from the bullpen and pitched the last 1 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 1 hit while striking out 1.
Kennedy Hussey led New Brockton at the plate going 4-for-5 with a triple and a homerun scoring 4 runs and 4 RBIs. Lizzy Everts went 3-for-5 scoring 3 runs and 2 RBIs, Thornton went 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBIs, Hobbs went 2-for-4 with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs, Kinsley Owens went 2-for-4 with a double scoring 2 runs and 1 RBI and Jenna Kate Weeks went 1-for-4 with a triple scoring 1 run and 1 RBI.
Zion Chapel had 7 errors in the game while New Brockton had 4. The Lady Gamecock had 18 hits on the day while Zion Chapel had 6.
New Brockton 16, Northside Methodist 7
The Lady Gamecocks outlasted Northside Methodist in a high scoring affair winning 16-7. New Brockton got things going in the top of the first inning scoring 3 runs and adding 2 more in the top of the second and top of the third to take a commanding 7-2 lead after three innings.
Northside Methodist came back scoring five more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings but the Lady Gamecocks were too much for them plating 8 runs in the top of the sixth and adding another in the top of the seventh.
Thornton pitched all seven innings for the Lady Gamecocks giving up 7 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6.
Everts led the Lady Gamecocks at the plate going 2-for-5 scoring 2 runs with 1 RBI, Sunday went 2-for-4 scoring 2 runs with 1 RBI, Thornton went 2-for-5 with a double scoring 1 run, Madison Meeks went 1-for-4 with a double scoring 3 runs and 3 RBIs and Hussey went 2-for-5 with a double scoring 1 run with 2 RBIs.
Northside Methodist had 13 errors in the game while New Brockton had 5. The Lady Gamecocks had 10 hits in the game to Northside Methodist’s 6.
