The New Brockton baseball team fell behind early to Prattville 11-1 and couldn’t catch up in the first of two games played Saturday, March 19.
Prattville scored four runs in the bottom of the first, another run in the bottom of the second and added two more r in the bottom of the third before the Gamecocks could get on the board with a run of their own in the top of the fourth.
Payton Green hit a fly double to left field and scored when Gabe Herrington singled on a ground ball to left.
Drew Cashin led off on the mound for the Gamecocks pitching five innings and giving up seven runs on eight hits while striking out seven. Hunter White pitched the final two-thirds of an inning giving up four runs on five hits with one strikeout.
Green led New Brockton at the plate going 1-for-3 with a double and scoring one run. Cashin went 1-for-3 with a double. Herrington and Bryson Carr each went 1-for-2 with Herrington earning an RBI.
New Brockton had four hits and seven errors in the game. Prattville had 13 hits and committed one error.
Ariton 10, New Brockton 0
The Gamecocks continued to struggle in the second game of the day falling to Ariton 10-0.
The Purple Cats put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring six runs.
Kaden Cupp started on the rubber for New Brockton pitching four innings and giving up four runs on four hits while striking out four. Green pitched the final two-thirds of an inning giving up six runs on five hits.
Cashin and Colton McClenny each went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Gamecocks. McClenny hit a double for New Brockton.
The Gamecocks had two hits and five errors in the game. Ariton had nine hits and no errors.
