The Enterprise Wildcats scored eight runs in the third inning and closed the door on Sweet Water with a 14-1 win on March 19.
The Cats scored one run in the bottom of the first and five runs in the bottom of the second before the floodgates opened in the third at the plate.
Will Powell started the scoring for Enterprise in the third with a three-run homerun after Payton Easterling started the inning with a walk and Drew Shiver hit a single on a hard ground ball to left field. Owen Burrow was hit by a pitch before the Sweet Water pitcher issued two straight walks with two out. Burrow then scored on a passed ball before Noah Loy doubled to score two more runs. Another walk and a single accounted for another run before the inning was over.
Austin Acreman pitched a complete game giving up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
Powell had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a homerun and a double scoring two runs and 3 RBIs. Shiver went 3-for-3 scoring two runs and 2 RBIs. Loy went 1-for-3 with a double scoring a run with 2 RBIs and Jack Williams went 1-for-2 scoring two runs and 1 RBI.
Enterprise had eight hits and two errors in the game and only left one on base. Sweet Water had three hits, one error and left three on base.
Pensacola Catholic 11, Enterprise 0
The Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t catch Pensacola Catholic as the Crusaders scored all 11 runs in the first four innings to win 11-0 on March 17.
Loy hit a single in the bottom of the first and was followed by another single by Shiver for the Cats with two outs but Enterprise couldn’t capitalize on the base runners. Williams doubled in the bottom of the third but once again, a runner was left on base.
Burrow started on the mound for Enterprise pitching three innings and giving up nine runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Kyle Hakel came on in relief for one inning and gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Easterling closed out the final inning and allowed no runs and no hits with one strikeout.
Loy and Shiver both went 1-for-2 at the plate. Williams went 1-for-3 with a double.
Enterprise gave up 12 hits and had one error leaving four men on base while Pensacola Catholic gave up three hits and had one error leaving five men on base.
Opelika 5, Enterprise 1
Opelika took the lead in this game 2-0 on a double in the top of the first inning but Enterprise couldn’t find any offense and let this one get away 5-1 on March 17.
The Wildcats started the sixth inning with a fly-ball double to center field by Easterling who was replaced by Pittman Hall as a pinch runner. A line-drive single to left field by Powell scored Hall but that was all the scoring the Cats could muster.
Brady Richardson started on the rubber for the Cats pitching five and two-thirds innings giving up four runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Wilkerson came in to pitch the final one and one-third inning giving up one run on one hit with one strikeout.
Easterling hit a double for Enterprise while Loy, Powell and Richardson each had a single for the Cats.
Enterprise gave up six hits in the game with no errors and left eight men on base while Opelika allowed four hits with one error and left four men on base.
