Supporting American men and women in uniform is one of the most important responsibilities of Congress, and passing the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is one of our primary tools. But in September when House Democrats brought an NDAA to the floor that did more to turn our military into a woke social experiment than enhance our national security, I couldn’t support it. Among many troubling provisions, that bill required women to register with the selective service and included red flag provisions that targeted the Second Amendment rights of our veterans.
Fortunately, common sense won out, and this month the House voted on a significantly improved version of the NDAA that not only eliminated the provisions mentioned above but ensured that servicemembers who refused a COVID vaccine will not receive a dishonorable discharge and increased investment in our national defense. I was proud to be able to support this bill and that the hard line I took with my colleagues against the earlier NDAA resulted in a victory for our servicemembers and national defense.

If you’re like me and owned or operated a business, you understand fundamental fiscal responsibilities. It’s important both to look ahead and make occasional adjustments to ensure money is coming in and that it’s being spent properly. But that’s not how things work in Washington.
Democrats have been so focused all year on their tax-and-spend agenda that they’ve neglected to fund the government. For the second time in a few months, Democrats passed a short-term continuing resolution – this time, through Feb. 18, 2022 – to keep the government running at current spending levels. Ordinarily, Congress reassesses all its spending each year, but that responsibility seems unimportant to Speaker Pelosi. On top of that, despite us being over $29 trillion in debt, Democrats are preparing to raise the debt ceiling through next year.

All of this spending comes as American families are suffering from record inflation. This summer, inflation was soaring at the fastest pace in 13 years. In October, inflation hit a 30-year high. And now the Department of Labor says inflation is surging at the fastest pace in nearly 40 years.
You don’t need an economics degree to know the unprecedented spending from Washington will make inflation worse, and it’s American families who will be forced to deal with the higher prices.

This month I hosted a telephone town hall and was happy to have over 10,000 folks from our district join. On top of that, over several hundred more watched live on Facebook and my website. I try to be as transparent as possible about my work in Washington, and I enjoy opportunities like these to speak directly with my constituents. If you missed this one or want to make sure you join the next one, please follow me on social media or reach out to my office. We are here to serve you.
