The Troy Trojans (9-4) earned a pair of wins last week over Arkansas-Baptist and Mercer.
Troy started the week with a 84-64 win over Arkansas-Baptist on Dec. 18 at home as Troy led from start to finish and even took a resounding 47-19 lead into halftime.
Rifen Miguel and Kieffer Punter led the Trojans both with 17 points coming off the bench, while Christian Turner added 13 points and six rebounds.
Troy followed that up with a 69-65 win over Mercer on the road. That win ended a streak of three straight wins over Sun Belt teams that Mercer held. In December, Mercer knocked off Georgia State, Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern in back-to-back-to-back games before losing to Troy.
Desmond Williams led Troy in the winning effort with 21 points, while Khalyl Waters added 19 points and seven rebounds. Duke Deen also chipped in with 11 points.
“I’m super proud of our guys,” Troy coach Scott Cross said. “We played tougher and got some huge stops down the stretch and had a little more grit to us defensively, which was the difference.
“To have four straight wins going into conference play is huge. But we still have a long way to go, and we will take it one day at a time and get better.”
Sun Belt play begins this week as Troy travels to Texas State on Dec. 30 before ringing in the New Year on the road against Texas-Arlington on Jan. 1.
