Preachers announces bid for re-election as coroner

Robert Preachers announces his candidacy for re-election as coroner for Coffee County.

Preachers has been trained by FEMA in fatality management during emergency events, including Incident Command Training. He is certified by the State of Alabama Coroner’s Association in aquatic death, child death investigation, HAZMAT and mass destruction deaths. He has also attended various U.S. Department of Justice FBI forensic courses and currently serves on the 12th District Child Death Review Board.

Preachers has dedicated his time as a volunteer fireman, EMS first responder, reserve deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years, constable in Coffee County for over 12 years, and coroner of Coffee County for 16 years. His expertise and reliability were shown extensively during the tornado disaster in Enterprise on March 1, 2007.

During his time serving as coroner, he has established ongoing relationships with all city and county agencies, the district attorney’s office, Fort Rucker authorities, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science. He believes it is very important to have established, multi-agency coordination across jurisdictional lines during the investigation of a death. Through his work with the county EMA, he was able to procure a portable morgue for the area by securing a 100 percent grant from the Alabama Department of Public Health.

He is currently working with the Coffee County Commission to construct a coroner’s office using existing space within a county building for an upgraded morgue and records storage.

If re-elected, his priority will be to continue to serve the citizens of Coffee County with the same professionalism and dedication that he has shown during his previous 16 years as coroner. He promises to personally respond in a timely manner to the needs of grieving families and commits to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
