The Coffee County School Board approved the contract for Bradley Bowers to serve as the first principal of the future New Brockton Middle School at its meeting on March 3. Bowers has been hired as the probationary principal of the new middle school soon to be under construction as a wing of New Brockton High School.
Bowers is currently the assistant principal at Zion Chapel School, his second stint at the school. He is a graduate of Elba High School, Troy University and the University of West Alabama. He has served in other schools to include Crenshaw Christian from 2004-2007, Highland Home from 2007-2009, Zion Chapel from 2009-2016 and Enterprise High School from 2016-2020. Bowers has been a head coach in football and softball, athletic director and has taught history as well as serving as a physical education teacher.
“I would like to congratulate Bradley Bowers on being named as the first principal of New Brockton Middle School,” Superintendent Kelly Cobb said.
The board approved the bid by Beasley Construction Services for classroom additions at New Brockton High School and New Brockton Elementary School. The high school will be adding 11 classrooms as well as offices, work areas and restroom facilities. The elementary school will be adding six classrooms. The approved bid was for one project to include the additions at both schools.
In other business, the board voted in favor of the recommendation by Cobb to approve the contracts for Kinston High School Principal Megan Driggers, New Brockton High School Principal Alonzo Barkley as well as the renewal of the contract for Shannon Odom, chief school financial officer. “I think it’s a blessing we have these quality people in these positions” Cobb said.
Cobb also announced Cody Keene has been hired as the head football coach at Zion Chapel. Keene has an extensive coaching resume having coached in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
The board also followed the recommendation of Cobb to adopt new textbooks for English Language Arts and Career Technology.
