On Feb. 22, at 2:22 p.m., Flower Lovers Garden Club planted two plus two (four) gingko trees at Westside Community Park located at the corners of College, Dogwood and Ann Streets. The tree planting was to recognize Alabama’s Arbor Week which is held the last full week in February. The gingkos were selected as part of the Garden Club of Alabama’s President LaMar Merrill’s platform to plant gingkos and maples to increase the state’s fall foliage color. Pictured at the planting are, from left, front row, Julie Mills, Dawn McGreagor, Cathy Brown and Leigh Cassady. Second row, from left, are Melodie Fortune, Sue Neuwein, Judy Pippen, Cyndy Weber, Paula Allman, Jennie Clark, Jackie Quisenberry, Harriet Patterson and Councilman Eugene Goolsby. Goolsby read a brief history of the park. Blake Faulk and Jack Hampton of the Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department, along with Pete Weber, provided the muscle.
