With the appointment of two members to the Daleville City Tree Board at the Daleville City Council meeting March 2, only two vacancies on the nine city of Daleville boards remain.
“It’s awesome,” said Daleville Mayor Jayme Stayton, who has asked at each council meeting for more than four years that any citizens interested in volunteering on a city board contact the city clerk. “I am super excited about these boards being filled.”
The Daleville City Council reappointed Jan Robertson and appointed Becky Richardson to the city Tree Board at the meeting March 2. Other members of the Tree Board are Lela Smith, Carolyn Ford and Rita Moore.
There is one vacancy on the Redevelopment Authority. Other members of that authority are Karl Boeson, Claudia Wigglesworth, Jody Britton and Alan Souders.
There is also a vacancy for an alternate on the Board of Adjustments. Other members of the board are Susan Herndon, Jon Dickinson, John Hendricks, Jody Britton, Brian Bowman. Michelle Powell serves as one of the two alternate positions.
There are no current vacancies on the Water Works and Sewer Board, Planning Commission, Board of Education, Library Board, Housing Authority and Rescue Squad Boards but with some terms to be completed in 2021, any citizen interested in serving is asked to call Daleville City Clerk Angelia Filmore at the Daleville City Hall.
Currently serving on the Water Works and Sewer Board are Jo Reese, Jimmy Monk, Fred Caylor, Wess Etheredge and Josh Robertson.
On the Planning Commission are Jayme Stayton, Katheryne Horace, Wayne Stripling, Charles Joines, John Flournoy, James Spears, Debbie McCall, Jan Robertson and Debra Latremore.
Serving on the Board of Education are Debra Latremore, Barbara Davis, Steve Kirkland, Angelia Filmore and Ricky McLin.
On the Library Board are Georgia Nichols, Linda Zito, Nancy Moseley, Vickie Storey and Yvonne Dixon.
Annie Dent, Philip French, James Horace, Michael Anderson and Scott Wuergler serve on the Housing Authority.
Serving on the Rescue Squad Board are Jayme Stayton, Allen Medley, Jimmy Monk, David Grubbs and Bobby Hardrick.
In other business, Daleville Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michelle Powell announced that Saturday, March 20, a St. Paw-trick’s Day Pet Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Windham Elementary School parking lot and end at the Daleville Dog Park. There is no charge to enter the parade and prizes will be awarded for the best dressed pet, Powell said. “It’s just a fun time to celebrate your pets.”
Powell said that Choppers Barbecue will hold a fundraiser to benefit the Community Thanksgiving Dinner the restaurant hosts annually. The fundraiser is a Craft and Vendor Fair to be held Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28.
The Dale County Fair held in Culpepper Park in Daleville begins March 30, Powell also said.
The next meeting of the Daleville City Council is a work session Monday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Daleville City Hall Council Chambers. A voting meeting is set for Tuesday, March 16, at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.
