New Brockton jumped on top 2-1 at the end of the first inning then scored three more runs over the next five innings to claim the win.
Cupp led the Gamecocks at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and scoring two runs. Cashin went 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Green went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Cashin went seven innings with no hits, one run and 20 strikeouts.
Walton (Fla.) 9, New Brockton 6
New Brockton baseball lost a heartbreaker to Walton (Fla.) 9-6 in the late innings Saturday, Feb. 26.
The Gamecocks jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second inning and stretched it to 5-2 in the third, but Walton came back and tied things up 5-5 in the top of the fourth scoring three runs of their own. Walton plated two more runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings but the Gamecocks couldn’t push but one more run across in the bottom of the fifth for the final score of 9-6.
Payton Green started the game on the mound for New Brockton and went four innings allowing five runs on three hits and striking out six. Brayson Carr, Drew Cashin, Hunter White and Josh Gutierrez each came in the game in relief throwing one inning, two-thirds of an inning, two-thirds of an inning and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
New Brockton had 9 hits on the day to Walton’s 5. Riley Simmons went 3-for-4 scoring one run and 2 RBIs, Kaden Cupp went 2-for-4 scoring 2 runs and 1 RBI, Colton McClenny went 1-for-4 scoring 1 run and Josh Gutierrez went 1-for-3 with a triple scoring 1 run.
New Brockton 12, Carroll 11
New Brockton had a blistering comeback in the seventh inning scoring five runs to overtake Carroll and squeeze out a win 12-11 Thursday, Feb. 24.
The Eagles scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-6 lead over the Gamecocks and plated two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings but New Brockton scored another run in the sixth inning before the onslaught in the seventh.
Green was credited with the win after coming in from the bullpen to pitch the final two innings. He allowed 4 hits and 2 runs as well as 4 strikeouts with no walks. Cupp started off on the mound for the Gamecocks going four innings and allowed 2 hits and 5 strikeouts while giving up 5 runs.
The leading hitters for New Brockton were Carr who went 2-for 3 with a double, 3 RBIs and one run scored; Gutierrez who went 1-for-1 scoring 3 runs and 1 RBI; Gabe Herrington who went 2-for-4; McClenny who went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run; Green who went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI; Jaxon Whitworth who went 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs; Cashin who went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs; and Cupp who went 2-for-5 with a triple, 1 RBI and scored 1 run.
