The Lady Gamecocks won the Spring Fling Tournament in Ozark last weekend.

The New Brockton Lady Gamecocks defeated the Opp Lady Bobcats with a walk-off double in the championship game of Carroll’s Spring Fling Softball Tournament in Ozark on March 20.

With New Brockton trailing Opp 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning of the championship game, New Brockton’s Shelby Hobbs drilled a line drive double into left field that drove Kennedy Hussey and Anna Blockman home for the walk-off win.

Kiersten Sunday went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the championship game, while Lizzy Everts went 2-for- 3 with a run.

McKenlie Jerkins earned the win in the circle pitching all seven innings and striking out one batter, while giving up six hits and two runs. Jordyn Thornton earned two double plays on defense, while Bailey Blackmon and Kinsley Owens had one each.

The Lady Gameocks dominated their other tournament games. New Brockton started the tournament off with a 7-2 win over Kinston in the first round on March 19. Hobbs and Everts both went 2-for-2 at the plate with one run each. Everts also had four RBIs and Hobbs had one. Sunday went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thornton, Bailey Blackmon and Anna Blackmon scored one run each, while Madison Meeks scored two runs.

Jerkins pitched all five innings and struck out six batters with six hits and two runs.

New Brockton thrashed Daleville in the second round, also on March 19, by a score of 16-0. The Lady Gamecocks earned 16 hits as a team with Bailey Blackmon going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and one run. Thornton also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while Harley Chinn with 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Jerkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Meeks, Owens and Anna Blackmon scored two runs each, while Sunday and Hussey each scored one run.

Jerkins again handled the duties in the circle, striking out three batters and giving up just one hit with no runs in three innings.

On March 20, New Brockton knocked Cottonwood off 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Thornton and Sunday both went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and one run each. Meeks, Jerkins, Owens and Jaiden Radcliffe scored one run each.

Bailey Blackmon pitched two innings and struck out two batters, while giving up two hits and no runs. Thornton also pitched two innings and struck out two batters with one run. Jerkins pitched one inning and struck out two batters with one hit allowed and no runs.

In the semifinals, New Brockton thumped host Carroll 9-1. Thornton, Meeks and Hobbs all went 2-for-3 at the plate against Carroll, while all three had one RBI. Thornton scored two runs and Meeks scored one run. Bailey Blackmon scored two runs, while Sunday, Hussey, Jerkins and Megan Eldridge scored one run each. Blackmon also earned her second home run of the tournament.

Jerkins once again handled pitching duties with four strikeouts along with three hits and one run given up in five innings pitched. Blackmon, Hobbs and Owens each had a double play.
