The Coffee County Schools Board of Education held a special ribbon cutting for the new wing of New Brockton Elementary School after the board meeting on Aug. 5.
The new wing includes 12 new classrooms and the entire room also serves as a storm shelter for the elementary school. The new classrooms will serve fourth graders through sixth graders. New Brockton High School is also currently undergoing classroom additions, as well. A storm shelter will also be built into the new high school classrooms.
“I want to give a special thanks to Mrs. Holli Richardson, Mr. (Jared) Robison and the teachers here at New Brockton Elementary School,” Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kelly Cobb said. “It has been a challenging summer getting moved in here but they have risen to the occasion and have done an outstanding job.”
The board also presented former superintendent Kevin Killingsworth with a plaque recognizing for his long service to the school system.
The board also approved the new reopening plan for the school system. While Coffee County Schools will not adopt a mask mandate for the school, Cobb said that masks are recommended but will be optional. Masks will be required, however, on school busses due to a federal mandate from the CDC. The school’s reopening plan can be viewed at https://tinyurl.com/vehpw2dc.
The board also approved a number of personnel decisions listed below, which includes the resignations and rehiring of a number of math and science teachers in the school system under TEAMS contracts. These TEAMS contracts will provide the teachers that meet the requirements – which includes national board certification – an extra stipend of up to $5,000 from the state.
