COVID numbers 'alarming' Dale EMA Director says

Dale County Emergency Management Director Willie Worsham

“An alarming increase” is the report from Dale County Emergency Management Agency Director Willie Worsham about the number of COVID cases being reported.

“Over the past few weeks, we have had an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases across the state and nationwide,” Worsham said. “As of today Monday, Aug 9, at 9 a.m., current numbers for Dale County are 6,002 up from 5,723 and 121 deaths up four over the past week.

“There has been a 3.3 percent increase in the state which shows an increase in cases,” he added. “Across Alabama there has been 607,209 cases and 16,913 deaths.”

Worsham said the Alabama Department of Public Health has opened the Dale County Public Health Department to offer testing daily and is increasing the availability of shots.

“At this time, all hospitals in the area are full and if someone needs to be COVID tested please go to the ADPH offices,” Worsham said. “Health officials are encouraging everyone to get their shots and continue to practice safety precautions by washing your hands, wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

“Please remember that even if you get the shot that you can still contract the virus however, taking the shot significantly reduces symptoms,” he added. “Let’s please do our part to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
