A very special thanks to our staff and volunteers that made this first ever Family Fun Day and Staff Appreciation event such a huge success for our members and parents,” said Joel Adams as he flipped hamburgers on the grill outside the club Friday, April 2. “We could not do this without them.”
Adams is the chairman of the board of directors for the six-month old club and the driving force behind the project that transformed the former Boy Scout Hut on Donnell Boulevard into a viable children’s after school program.
The initial membership of 18 children has grown to capacity in the Daleville club, which is under the direction of Site Director Jonathan Benjamin and Assistant Director April Spencer. “Being at capacity is a good problem to have in such a new club but we’re hoping to expand,” Adams said.
Daleville City Councilman and longtime first responder Kevin Turley talked to the club members about opportunities for careers in law enforcement. He stressed the importance of making good choices as a young person. “Your name’s reputation is one of the most important things you will ever have,” he stressed.
“Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works… and glorify your Father who is in heaven,” is the Bible’s Book of Matthew verse that was the message Miss Pre Teen International Allie Campbell brought to the female club members. “True beauty is your inner beauty,” Campbell stressed. She presented each girl with a copy of a Christ-centered book about the importance of inner beauty that she personalized with the encouragement to “Keep shining beautiful one. The world needs your light.”
James and Victoria Cunningham of Titan Magic providing a magic show for the club members.
A “special guest” at the event was Col. Phillip Lenz, Director of Public Safety at Fort Rucker, Adams said.
“A day of new beginnings, new opportunities for not only our children but also our parents and our community,” Adams said, reiterating his words as he welcomed those attending the official ribbon cutting of the club Oct. 30, 2020. “We will strive to provide a positive place for our children, a safe, structured environment that many children need and want but it’s going to take all of us working together.”
