The New Brockton Gamecocks picked up a big win over county foe Elba Tigers 67-65 in overtime on Dec. 15 on the road.

New Brockton led for much of the game, earning a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and taking a 31-24 lead into halftime. Elba fought back outscoring New Brockton 13-11 in the third quarter but the Gamecocks still led 42-37 going into the final period. Elba managed to outscore New Brockton 20-15 in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.

New Brockton outscored Elba 10-8 in the final period and walked away with a big win. New Brockton shot 42 percent from the field, while Elba shot just 34 percent. The Gamecocks and Tigers both turned the ball over 22 times.

Junior Dillon Kelty led the Gamecocks with 19 points, 12 rebounds and two steals, while senior Damarion Holt chipped in with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Matthew Smith added 17 points and Brandon Johnson scored eight points.

New Brockton followed that up with a 62-55 loss to Kinston on the campus of Enterprise State Community College on Dec. 17 in another non-region county matchup.

Kinston took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter but the Gamecocks answered back and tied the score 27-27 at halftime. The Gamecocks won the third quarter 16-13 to lead 43-40 going into the final period, but the Bulldogs owned the fourth quarter outscoring New Brockton 22-12 to pick up the 62-55 win.

Kinston also outrebounded New Brockton 33-30 and forced 15 Gamecock turnovers.

Kelty again led New Brockton with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Smith added 13 points and six rebounds.

Kinston was led by Ayden Wallace with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Reece Hall contributed 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Logan Matthews scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds.
