Lady Cats advance to state tournament

The Enterprise Lady Cats have advanced to the Class 7A State Volleyball Tournament after finishing in fourth place in the Class 7A South Regionals in Montgomery last week.

Enterprise secured its spot in the state tournament after sweeping Central-Phenix City 3-0 in the quarterfinals on Oct. 21 before falling 3-0 to McGill-Toolen on Oct. 22. Enterprise then lost the third place match to Fairhope 3-1 on Oct. 22.

Enterprise won all three sets against Central 25-11, 25-20 and 25-12 with Heather Holtz leading the way with five aces and 22 assists, while Jadyn Britton earned seven kills and Abigail Wiggins totaled six kills. Both Zationna Horne and Taylor Danford chipped in with four kills each.

Hannah Chang and Wiggins also had one block each and Danford had two aces. Kayden Taylor also had one ace and five digs, while Lily Rhoades had 11 digs and Danford had four digs.

Enterprise lost to McGill-Toolen 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17 in all three sets. Chang led Enterprise with six kills and four blocks, while Holtz added two aces and 13 assists. Rhoades totaled 14 digs and Danford earned four digs and three kills. Jadyn Britton chipped in with seven kills and Horne had seven blocks.

Enterprise defeated Fairhope 25-21 in the first set of the third place game before Fairhope won the final three sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-23. Britton led Enterprise with 12 kills, two blocks, two aces and seven digs, while Holtz had two aces and 32 assists. Taylor earned two aces and five digs, while Chang had 10 kills and two blocks.

Enterprise heads to Birmingham on Oct. 27 to face Spain Park in the quarterfinals of the State Tournament at 10:30 a.m. on Court 7 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Spain Park won the Class 7A North Regional Tournament. The winner of that match faces the winner of Auburn vs. Sparkman later in the day in the semifinals. The championship game will be played on Oct. 28 at noon.
