The Enterprise Lady Cats are the inaugural Pea River Christmas Basketball Tournament Champions after taking the tournament crown last week in Elba.
The Lady Cats knocked off Crestview 61-45 in the championship game at Elba High School on Dec. 30. Enterprise led by as many as 30 points in the game. The Lady Cats jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter and took a 40-23 lead into halftime and stretched that lead to 54-28 going into the final period. Enterprise also outscored Crestview 7-6 in the final period.
Senior Jaida Gosha led the Lady Cats with 14 points, while senior Joye Anderson added 12 points and senior Alayna Dean scored 10 points. Sophomore Brooklyn Kemmerlin and senior Dashia Nelson scored eight points each.
Enterprise also beat Florala 53-46 in the semifinals after dominating the fourth quarter. The Lady cats trailed 17-11 going into the second quarter and Florala held on to a 27-18 lead at halftime but Enterprise came roaring back in the second half.
Enterprise outscored Florala 18-9 in the third quarter to tie the score 36-36 going into the final period. The fourth quarter belonged to Enterprise, however, as the Lady Cats outscored Florala 17-10 to secure their spot in the championship game.
Nelson led Enterprise with 20 points and Gosha added 14 points in the win, while Anderson scored nine points.
The Lady Cats also took third place in the second annual Thelma’s Kitchen Classic in Eufaula knocking off Cottonwood in the third place game.
The Lady Cats will host rival Dothan in an area matchup on Jan. 7.
