Enterprise Lady Cats soccer star Jillian Martin signed her letter-of-intent to continue her soccer career at the Auburn University of Montgomery on Tuesday, June 2.
Martin – whose brother James Martin III is also a hockey player at Alabama – said that she really felt like AUM was the place for her after touring the school.
“I’ve been talking to AUM since I first started applying to colleges and they were one of the first colleges that accepted me,” Martin said. “I toured it and I really liked the campus and everyone there was really nice.”
Martin – who plans to earn a nursing degree – said that along with getting her degree, her goal at AUM is to get on the field and make an impact. New AUM head coach Julianne Herrity made a solid impression on Martin after Herrity was hired.
“She was really nice and was willing to talk to me even though she had just been hired and was struggling to get to know her own team at the time,” Martin said. “She said she really thought I would be a good fit for the team.”
Martin said the communication skills she learned at EHS should help her at the next level.
“I think communicating with the coaches here and being able to take what I’ve learned from Coach Jill (Harrelson) and my soccer team will really help me putting that towards the field at AUM,” Martin emphasized.
While Martin admitted to being nervous for her new start at AUM, she’s also excited to get started.
“I’m really scared because now I have to go and meet new people but at the same time I’m excited,” Martin said. “I’m really nervous but I’m really excited, too.”
