Ava Carnazza and Camille Bonura, both of Enterprise and Enterprise High School graduates, have been elected to serve as SGA president of their respective universities. Carnazza was elected as SGA president at Troy University and Bonura was elected as SGA president at the University of South Alabama for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Troy University students selected new members of the Student Government Association Executive Branch during an election in the spring 2022 semester. The SGA Executive Branch consists of the President, Vice President of Internal Affairs, Vice President for Campus Activities, Executive Vice President, Executive Secretary and Freshman Forum Director.
Seven leaders are chosen from the Trojan community each spring to lead the SGA of Troy University. The student body elects these individuals to lead them, address their concerns, and implement the changes the student body deems necessary on campus.
Troy’s SGA represents the student body within the university administration and the community. The SGA advocates the interests of Troy students and works to better the student experience through community events and opportunities.
Carnazza is a global business marketing major and said she decided to run for SGA President because she saw a need on the Troy campus for unity.
“Everyone needs to be respected and heard,” Carnazza said. “My goal as the SGA President is to host many different events on campus to encourage people with diverse backgrounds to congregate and learn about each other. I have met so many different people during my time at Troy, coming from all different walks of life, and it has made me aware of so many different types of cultures that I have gained respect for. It is as easy as having a conversation with someone.”
Carnazza is the daughter of Vincent and Jane Carnazza, formerly of Enterprise.
University of South Alabama students also selected new members of the Student Government Association during an election in the spring 2022 semester. The SGA Executive Branch consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Chief Justice, Attorney General and a Student-at-Large.
The purpose of the Student Government Association at South Alabama is to protect and advance student interests, as well as to promote the welfare of the students by providing student services.
Bonura, a junior hospitality and tourism management major, said some of her key focuses from her platform will be partnering with local restaurants to provide discounts and strengthening the connection between the Mobile business community and South Alabama. She also wants to advocate an open office hour for students to meet with President Jo Bonner and host more events with the USA Police Department.
As president, Bonura is looking forward to focusing on the needs of South Alabama students.
“My vision as SGA president is always putting each and every student first,” Bonura said. “Before I began campaigning, I was building my platform, and each point I want to achieve as president is centered around putting the students first. The students are the heartbeat of this university, and they are where my main focus will be over the next year.”
Bonura is the daughter of Meredith Mitchell and Ross Bonura of Enterprise.
