On Dec. 28, 2020, there was a certain buzz in the air at Medical Center Enterprise when the staff arrived for work. After 10 months of battling against COVID-19, there seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thus far, the hospital has received 400 vaccinations to administer. This meant that all of the MCE staff members who requested the vaccination would be able to take it. It also meant that more of the partnering physicians, their staff, and community healthcare partners would be able to receive the vaccination. Of the vaccinations received, the federal and state government requires MCE to administer a certain number of doses to employees, EMS workers, physician office providers, and to outside hospital employees who don’t yet have the vaccine.

In the words of Dr. Beverly Jordan, Professional Medical Associates, “As a Family Physician I have been treating patients with COVID-19 in my office since March and have seen firsthand the devastation this illness has caused both physically, emotionally and economically.  I am so thankful to finally be able to get the vaccine.  This will be a huge step in protecting myself, my patients, my coworkers, my family and my community from this deadly and disabling virus. I truly appreciate the work that went into coordinating this vaccine development and roll out and want to thank MCE, the Alabama Department of Public Health, the CDC, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Alabama Hospital Association for working together to ensure that rural frontline healthcare workers have the opportunity to be vaccinated quickly.”

The MCE staff was also excited to see the press release come out last week from ADPH, announcing the opportunity for persons ages 75 and over to receive the vaccination. If members of the public in that age category are interested in receiving the vaccination, they can call the Alabama Department of Public Health at 1-855-566-5333.
