Members of the Level Plains City Council unanimously approved a request from Police Chief John Mason to hire an additional part-time officer during a June 17 meeting.
The new part-time officer will be available to assist the city's four other full-time officers.
Also relating to the police department, council members approved a motion allowing the police chief to dispose of outdated equipment.
In other news, a motion was approved to sell one of the city's water department vehicles on govdeals.com.
Council members also approved a motion allowing the city to purchase a new computer for the city magistrate's office for up to $1,000.
The council also approved a motion approving the travel request for city clerk Pat Wambles to attend Master Municipal Clerk training in Tuscaloosa from Aug. 26-29.
The next council meeting, set for July 15, at 6 p.m., has been moved from the Level Plains Community Center to the town hall due to run-off elections.
