EPD

The Enterprise Police Department issued a statement on July 22 informing the public of a phone scam going around the Enterprise area.

In the scam, a potential victim receives a phone call from a subject claiming to be an employee of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The caller will advice the potential victim that they owe back taxes and must confirm their social security number in order to resolve the issue.

The caller may also advise the potential victim that their social security number will be “cancelled or suspended” if they don’t comply. Anyone that receives this phone call should hang up immediately.

The EPD is encouraging everyone to independently verify information if you receive this type of phone call and do not release personal information to these callers.
