A Coffee County man who was charged with three counts of attempted murder will serve two years for three reckless endangerment charges following a jury's verdict Oct. 17.
Rocky Beasley, 33, was accused of the attempted murder of three Enterprise police officers who were responding to a domestic violence call at his home on County Road 270 in February of this year.
Beasley was charged with firing a rifle at three officers, who took cover behind their vehicles during the scuffle.
No officers were injured, however bullet holes were found on two of the patrol cars.
Responding police officers Seth Fitts, Robert MacDonald and Russell "Chad" Lolley testified during the trial.
Beasley's attorney, Gary Bradshaw, argued the state did not have enough evidence that Beasley had intent to kill the officers and the lesser charge of reckless endangerment would be appropriate.
A jury deliberated more than six hours and came back with a guilty verdict for three counts of reckless endangerment.
"I give my sincerest apologies to the officers and their families," Beasley said before Circuit Judge Thomas Head gave his sentence.
Beasley added he was glad neither the officers, or himself were hurt during the incident.
The maximum sentence for reckless endangerment is a year and a cap on stringing misdemeanor sentences prevents Beasley from serving more than two years.
Beasley was taken back into custody by the Coffee County Sheriff's Department and will serve out his sentence at the Coffee County Jail.
