Last week Daleville superintendent Dr. Lisa Stamps placed baseball coach Justin Hendrix on administrative leave and now has issued a statement over the matter.
Initially Stamps said that she could not comment on personnel matters and gave a brief comment on a donation to the baseball program that had been returned, but on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Stamps gave a statement on both matters.
“On Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, Justin Hendrix was placed on administrative leave from his duties as an employee of Daleville City School System pending action by the Daleville City Board of Education on a recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Lisa Stamps that Mr. Hendrix be terminated,” the statement read. “Mr. Hendrix has primary duties as a physical education teacher at Windham Elementary School with supplementary athletic duties to include head baseball coach at Daleville High School.
“The matter involving Mr. Hendrix is a personnel matter, not a baseball or athletics matter.
The statement also further touched on the donation.
“Administrators had concerns regarding Mr. Hendrix’s primary employment duties during the fall semester of 2019,” the statement said. “When school came back to session in January 2020, Mr. Hendrix presented a check to the Daleville High School baseball team that came through a family member of Mr. Hendrix.
“While trying to determine how to best move forward regarding the donation, the concerns regarding Mr. Hendrix’s primary job duties continued and Dr. Stamps placed Mr. Hendrix on administrative leave pending board action on her recommendation to terminate Mr. Hendrix. The matter is a personnel matter and as such no further details can be given.”
The Daleville Board of Education will be meeting on Jan. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
