A man who has served Enterprise City Schools since 2001 was unanimously named acting superintendent at a special called meeting of the Enterprise Board of Education Monday, Nov. 7.
Greg Faught was named acting superintendent on the heels of the Oct. 25 announcement by Enterprise Schools Superintendent Dr. Camille Wright that she would retire effective Dec. 1 from the post she has held since 2013.
Faught has served as ECS Assistant Superintendent—essentially as director of operations—since February 2014. In that capacity Faught developed and annually updated the schools’ capital plan and has overseen all aspects of the building and renovation projects.
“I’m grateful to the board for the opportunity to continue to serve our community and our schools,” Faught said following his appointment. “Moving forward, obviously my primary focus is on the day-to-day operations of the school system.
“I would like to publically thank Dr. Wright for her three years of service with us,” Faught said. “There has been a lot of good work done and the opportunity to build on that is right in front of us.
“I believe in this school system because of its people. The caliber of individuals that we have in our school system top to bottom is second to none,” Faught said. “We’ve got to continue to give (educators and support staff) the resources, support and encouragement necessary for growth.
“If there is one thought that I want to convey most it is that everything that we do and that we say in the community will make our school system better—or not,” Faught said. So if you can imagine 815 teachers and 7,100 students grabbing a hold of that idea, embracing that thought, living it out each day, what a powerful message that would send.
“I think if we can do that,” he added, “people will come flying in here to see what we are doing, so I am excited about the opportunity to serve.”
Faught served as ECS Secondary Education Curriculum Supervisor from 2012-2014 during which time, he was responsible for supervision of all aspects of secondary education in grades seven-12.
Faught served as principal of the now defunct Enterprise Junior High School from 2001-2012, a position he came to from an assistant principal post at Girard Middle School in Dothan.
Faught’s 24-year career in education includes stints as an assistant principal of curriculum at Westwood Middle School in Winter Haven, Fla., the dean of students at Lake Gibson Middle School in Lakeland, Fla., a physical education teacher at Kathleen Elementary School in Lakeland, Fla., and an in-school suspension teacher at East Naples Middle School in Naples, Fla.
Faught said he plans to submit his name as a candidate for ECS superintendent once the formal selection process begins. Wright is employed by ECS until Dec. 1 but is reportedly taking accrued vacation time until that date.
The EBOE is having a training session with Susan Salter from the Alabama Association of School Boards to review methods of hiring a superintendent.
The next regular meeting of the EBOE is Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m.
