Commissioner Tom Grimsley announced the members of Coffee County’s Strategic Planning Committee during a July 9 meeting of the Coffee County Commission.
This year’s planning committee includes: Elba Mayor Mickey Murdock, Coffee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Don McPherson, Ray Byrd, Andy Lavender, Kinston Mayor Heflin Smith, Coffee County Farm City Chairman Daniel Stephens, Neal Brown, David Garrett, Calvin Garth, Joyce Stanford, Jackie Thompson, Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell, Josh Pipkin and Dan Presley.
These individuals will play a key role in the direction Coffee County takes over the next year.
The first meeting of the planning committee will take place July 17 at 7 p.m. during the Coffee County Extension Office’s “Grassroots” meeting in the community room at the Coffee County Complex in New Brockton.
In other news, the commission approved county engineer Randy Tindell’s request to “initialize” road improvement projects on county roads 651, 460, 547 and 537.
The approval allows the county to submit these projects to be considered for federal funding programs as well as state programs such as the Alabama Transportation and Rehabilitation Improvement Program that has already funded roadwork in the county.
In other business, the commission approved a request by the Coffee County Baptist Association to hold a prayer ceremony on the steps of the Coffee County Court Houses in Enterprise and Elba.
John Granger, CCBA director of missions, said the ceremonies would take place March 14, 2013 at 10 a.m.
The Coffee County Commission will meet again July 23 in the community room at the Coffee County Complex.
