During a March 25 meeting, the Coffee County Commission authorized a line of credit with Troy Bank and Trust for the purpose of paying its portion of recent Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP) projects.
The line of credit was authorized for up to $3 million at an interest rate of 1.9 percent.
In February, the county was awarded $6 million in ATRIP funding, which is being used to fund 13 road-resurfacing projects and a bridge replacement project.
In other business, commissioners agreed to use the Coffee County Engineering Department to assist in the site preparation work of an expansion project at Inzi Controllers in Elba.
The commission agreed to cover the cost of the project until Elba can secure $100,000 in grant funding to repay the county.
The expansion is expected to create about 100 new jobs at the facility.
In other news, commissioners reviewed bids for janitorial services, food services and paper products.
COPACO of Columbus, Ga. and Enterprise Paper and Janitorial submitted bids.
The commission agreed to table its decision until an April 8 meeting to review the bids further.
At the request of Coffee County Engineer Randy Tindell, the commission approved the sale of a Jeep Cherokee on govdeals.com.
Sheriff Dave Sutton requested motorists use extra caution throughout the week due to the number of children out of school for Spring Break.
Sutton also announced the retirement of 30-year law enforcement veteran Charles Driggers.
The department is hosting a retirement luncheon for Dirggers at noon, March 29, at the Coffee County Complex.
The Coffee County Commission will meet again at 9 a.m., April 8.
