The Daleville Lady Hawks watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-2 loss to Slocomb on Thursday, March 24.
Slocomb scored first in the top of the first inning and added two more runs in the top of the fourth but Daleville stayed within striking distance with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-2.
Alissa Haris started off the inning with a walk and was followed by Lashundra Straw and Abby Dunaway who both reached base on a ground ball error. Haris then scored on a ground out by Katie Harry. Nevaeh Pettway singled on a fly ball to left field scoring Straw before a strikeout ended the inning.
Haris pitched a complete game giving up 12 runs on 17 hits with two strikeouts.
Haris also led at the plate going 1-for-2 scoring a run. Kaleigh Carr, Harry and Pettway all went 1-for-3 with Harry and Pettway earning an RBI each.
Daleville had four hits and two errors leaving four runners on base. Slocomb had 17 hits and two errors and left seven runners on base.
Geneva County 10,
Daleville 7
Daleville stayed in the game until late March 22 against Geneva County and fell 10-7 after the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jones started the game off in the top of the first with a walk and advanced to third on a steal and a ground out by Minnefield. Haris singled on a fly ball to left and Jones scored to give the Lady Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Geneva County tied things up in the bottom of the first then went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Daleville came back and tied things up again 2-2 in the top of the third before Geneva County scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-2 lead. However, the Lady Hawks weren’t done as they tied the score again scoring four runs of their own in the top of the fourth.
Harry started the inning off with a walk and Pettway advanced her on a single line drive to third. With two out, Jones singled to center field to score Harry and Pettway. Minnefield then singled and Haris was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Straw came to bat and hit a double to right field to score Minnefield before Jones scored on a steal of home.
Daleville managed to cross the plate one more time in the top of the fifth but that would end the scoring for them.
Katelyn High started on the rubber for the Lady Hawks pitching three innings and giving up six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Haris came on in relief to pitch the final three innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Harry went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and scoring two runs, Haris went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Jones went 1-for-3 scoring two runs and 2 RBIs, Minnefield went 1-for-3 scoring two runs, Pettway went 1-for-2 scoring one run and Straw went 1-for-4 with a double and 1 RBI.
Daleville had eight hits and two errors while leaving eight runners on base. Geneva County had 15 hits and no errors while leaving seven runners on base.
Elba 11, Daleville 6
The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning but just couldn’t hang on when Elba scored eight runs in the top of the fourth and finished with an 11-6 win over Daleville on March 21.
Minnefield started the second off when she was hit by a pitch then stole second. Harry doubled on a ground ball to third base and Minnefield scored. With two out, Jones reached first on a dropped third strike and Harry advanced to third. Lascano then singled on a ground ball to center to score Harry.
Jones hit an inside-the-park home run to score Pettway who had walked to start the bottom of the fourth. Daleville scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after a Jones single, two walks, three stolen bases and a run on a passed ball.
Haris started on the mound for Daleville pitching a complete game giving up 11 runs on 18 hits and seven strikeouts.
Jones had the hot bat for the Lady Hawks going 2-for-4 with a home run and scoring two runs and 2 RBIs. Lascano went 2-for-3 scoring one run and 1 RBI, Haris went 1-for-2 with a triple and Harry went 1-for-2 with a double scoring one run and 1 RBI.
Daleville had seven hits and four errors while leaving nine on base. Elba had 18 hits and no errors while leaving eight on base.
