Dale landfill open April 24

Dale County is among counties participating in the statewide “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” Saturday, April 24.

As part of the cleanup, the Dale County Landfill will be open Saturday, April 24, said Dale County Commission Chairman Steve McKinnon. There will be free dumping day for Dale County residents—not businesses—that day at the landfill located at Bivins Drive, off of County Road 30, five miles south of Ozark.

In an effort to encourage cleanup of roadsides and public areas, the Dale County Solid Waste Department has free trash bags and informational material available for citizens, McKinnon said.

The Dale County Construction and Demolition Landfill will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. April 24.

The only thing residents need to keep in mind before taking advantage of the offer is exactly what the landfill can and can’t accept, McKinnon said. The landfill cannot accept household garbage, electronics, stereos, televisions, microwaves, tires, paint cans, aerosol cans, asbestos materials or other hazardous materials.

Only what’s considered construction or demolition waste that is not hazardous or likely to decay is allowed.

McKinnon said civic clubs, churches, businesses and other groups are urged to demonstrate their civic pride by accepting responsibility for the litter pick-up on one of the many roads throughout the county.

Those interested are asked to call (334) 774-4158 for additional information.
