Developing relationships with community members is core to the community policing concept and community policing is core to the Level Plains Police Department’s mission.
Level Plains Police Chief Johnny Summers has stressed the importance of developing community relationship since being sworn in to office Nov. 2, 2020. Summers had worked with the Level Plains Police Department since July 2020 before being appointed to the top slot on the force.
“Level Plains wants to ‘community police’ more than anything,” Summers has steadily reiterated. It was with community relationships in mind that the police chief coordinated with the Easter Bunny and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Works Local Lodge 2003 to host an Easter Egg Hunt.
With the help from Miss Level Plains Laney Deloney and Little Miss Level Plains McKinley Deloney, more than 1,000 eggs were hidden in the Obetus J. Waters City Park, located next to the Level Plains Community Center on Z Street.
“We had a phenomenal turn out,” Summer said, adding that some 200 children participated. “We had the wonderful Level Plains queens help hide Easter Eggs and the Easter Bunny had a great time getting pictures with all of the kids.
“Once the kids were able to go out and hunt the eggs, they were all found within minutes,” he added with a smile.
