Level Plains City Hall to remain closed

The unofficial Facebook page for the city of Level Plains is one resource for sharing news about events happening in the city, according to Level Plains Mayor Ronnie Thompson.

The Level Plains City Hall will remain closed to the public as an ongoing precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A decision to keep the city government building closed was made at the Level Plains City Council meeting Dec. 1.

Meeting now at the community center in accordance with the COVID-19 social distancing mandates, the council opted to keep the current closures and revisit the issue or reopening when the number of pandemic victims in the area lessen.

The city of Level Plains moved all council meetings from city hall to the Level Plains Community Center located at 47 Z Street near the intersection with Dale County Road 1 after Gov. Kay Ivey’s March 27 order as the state expanded its efforts to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move was made to accommodate social distancing and to help protect the public and city officials.

To make water bill payments, bill stubs and checks can be put in an envelope and placed in the Red Drop Box on the pole outside the city hall door.

Those preferring to pay water bills by debit or credit card may call (334) 347-0422.

For police assistance, dispatch can be reached at (334) 598-3233.

In other business Level Plains Mayor Ronnie Thompson told those attending the council meeting that the unofficial Facebook page for the city of Level Plains is one resource for sharing news about happenings in the city.

In unrelated business, the council authorized the mayor to spend up to $20,000 on a new water truck. Funding will come from the water department.

The Level Plains City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 5 p.m. at the community center. The next meeting is Dec. 15. The meeting is open to the public.
