A woman with more than two decades of service to the Daleville City Schools has been appointed to the Daleville Board of Education.
Lynne McWilliams was appointed by a majority vote at the Daleville City Council meeting May 4. She is appointed to fill the vacancy created by Debra Latremore, who opted not be be reappointed to the board. McWilliams takes a seat on the board at the June DBOE meeting.
McWilliams worked for Daleville City Schools from 1995 to 2019. She was first hired by then Superintendent Frank Moore in 1995 as a personnel director, payroll and school bookkeeper.
Superintendent Eddie Hill promoted her to Chief School Finance Officer in 2005. In that capacity, she retained payroll duties. McWilliams also worked with Daleville City Schools Superintendents Diane Flournoy and Andy Kelley. “I loved working at Daleville Schools,” she said. “I am very excited about working for the school system again, this time in service on the school board.
McWilliams’ “two beautiful daughters” attended Daleville City Schools. One of her “three adorable grandchildren” currently attends kindergarten at Windham Elementary School.
McWilliams also is a product of the Daleville City School system, graduating from Daleville High School in 1973.
“I was born and raised a military enlisted soldier’s daughter,” the woman who was born in San Antonio, Texas said. “I went to first grade in five schools,” she added with a smile. “I loved being an ‘Army Brat.’ We traveled to Texas, Japan, Hawaii and Germany but always came back to Fort Rucker.”
McWilliams graduated from Enterprise State Junior College and Troy State University with a degree in accounting.
Councilwoman Jo Reese made the motion to appoint McWilliams and Councilman Jimmy Monk seconded the motion. Voting for McWilliams were Reese, Monk and Daleville Mayor Jayme Stayton. Casting a “no” vote were Councilmembers Kevin Turley and Katheryne Horace. Councilman Alan Souders was not present at the meeting.
In other business, the council voted to enter into a three-month agreement with Wiregrass Performance Institute to rent the Billy Adkins Community Center June, July and August of this year at a cost of $10 per month. The council agreed to revisit the request by WPI organizer Justin Elmore to use the center at the second meeting in August.
In unrelated business, Pat and Sheridan Smith, owners of Fort Rucker Mobile Home Park on Tar Hill Road in Daleville, introduced themselves to the council and outlined the plans that they have for the park. The Smiths have owned the park for several years but moved to the area in 2019. The Smiths commended Daleville Water Clerk Beth Bullard for her assistance with water issues while they were managing the park and living out of state
The next meeting of the Daleville City Council is June 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Daleville City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
