The New Brockton Lady Gamecocks fell to Pike County twice in the 3A Area 4 softball tournament May 3 after evening the series with a win over Goshen. The two teams were evenly matched tying up at four runs in both games but Pike County managed to eke out another run in the seventh inning of the first game and a run in the eighth inning of the last game to win 5-4 in both games.
The final game between New Brockton and Pike County came down to the last play with the Lady Gamecocks coming out on the wrong end of a defeat 5-4. The game was tied at four apiece when a Pike County batter singled to score a run in the bottom of the eighth to win the area tournament for the Lady Bulldogs.
Thornton pitched a complete game for New Brockton once again giving up five runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts.
Hussey led the Lady Gamecocks at the plate going 2-for-4 with two doubles scoring two runs and 2 RBIs. Meeks went 1-for-4 scoring a run and Hobbs went 1-for-1 with 1 RBI.
New Brockton had seven hits in the game and five errors while Pike County had 12 hits and no errors.
