The Enterprise Lady Cats (6-7) wrapped up weekend play as runner-up in the Houston Academy Tournament on Aug. 28.
The Lady Cats lost to St. Luke’s in the tournament opener 2-0, but picked up 2-0 wins over Houston Academy, Charles Henderson and Opp before falling to St. Luke’s in the championship game again 2-0.
Against Houston Academy, Enterprise won both sets 25-22 and 25-23 before winning 25-11 and 25-6 against Charles Henderson and 26-24 and 25-22 against Opp. Enterprise lost 25-18 and 25-19 in the first game against St. Luke’s and 25-13 and 25-14 in the second.
Hannah Chang led Enterprise with 26 kills and 11 blocks during the tournament, while Zationna Horne chipped in with 16 kills and 12 blocks. Yasmeen Stallworth had eight aces and 22 digs, while Lily Rhodes earned 58 digs and Sammie Neuwien contributed 17 digs with 34 assists.
Enterprise followed up the tournament action with a home match against Montgomery’s Brewbaker Tech but ultimately fell 4-1. Enterprise lost the first set 25-23 before coming back to win the second set 25-23. Brewbaker Tech won the next two sets 27-25 and 25-20 to take the match, however.
Enterprise was led by Neuwien with four aces, 13 digs, five blocks and 17 assists, while Hannah Chang pitched in with 10 kills and nine blocks. Rhodes contributed 22 digs and two aces, while Horne had eight kills and three blocks. Heather Holtz had 10 digs and 12 assists. Kamira Cooper had nine kills.
The JV Lady Cats picked up a 2-0 win over Brewbaker Tech, winning both sets 25-14 and 25-23. Makenna Kennedy led the Lady Cats with four aces and three assists, while Taylor Danford had three kills.
The Lady Cats also picked up a 3-1 win over Opp on Aug. 27. Enterprise won the first two sets 25-12 and 25-17 before Opp bounced back to pick up a 25-21 win in the third set. Enterprise picked up the win with a 25-18 fourth set.
Rhodes had a big night against Elba with four aces, 21 digs and six assists, while Horne had 13 kills and Stallworth had 11 digs. Kayden Taylor also had 11 digs and Chang had 10 kills with seven blocks.
The JV Lady Cats also picked up a 2-1 win over Opp. After losing the first set 25-23, the JV Lady Cats came back with a 25-22 win in the second set and 15-9 win in the third set.
Makenna Kennedy had five assists, while Taylor Danford had 10 digs and five kills. Emma Warren had three aces and Jaydin Williams had eight assists. Ella Hamspon also chipped in with five kills.
On Aug. 25, the Lady Cats fell to Auburn on the road 3-0 losing all three sets 25-14, 25-21 and 25-10.
Rhoades led Enterprise with 17 digs and two aces, while Heather Holtz chipped in with three digs and five assists. Kamira Cooper and Mikyla Kay had four kills each.
The JV Lady Cats also lost 2-0 to Auburn losing both sets 25-20 and 25-21. Emma Warren had two aces and Sky Stracener had seven digs. Danford earned three kills.
The Freshman Lady Cats knocked off Auburn 3-2, as well. Enterprise won the first set 25-22 but Auburn knotted things up 1-1 in the second set winning 25-22. The Lady Cats then fell 25-17 in the third set but bounced back to win 25-17 in the fourth set. Enterprise then secured the win by taking the fifth set 15-11.
Ella Little led the freshmen with eight aces, while Riley Stewart added six aces and seven digs. Karis Snell had 10 digs.
