Troy

A week after finally announcing its 2020 football schedule, the Sun Belt Conference announced on Aug. 27 that Troy’s season opener, scheduled for Sept. 5 against Louisiana-Monroe, has been rescheduled for Dec. 5.

A number of positive tests at ULM led to the team being placed into quarantine last week, resulting in the game being rescheduled.

“I received the unfortunate news that ULM will be unable to take the field on Sept. 5 due to an outbreak of coronavirus within their team,” Troy Athletic Director Brent Jones said. “While this is certainly disappointing news for our team and fans, we are committed to the health and safety of all student-athletes and have worked with ULM to reschedule this game. We will now host the Warhawks on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.”

Troy’s season opener will now take place on Sept. 19 on the road against Middle Tennessee instead. Troy’s home opener will be against Texas State on Thursday, Oct. 8, and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

The Sun Belt has also pushed back the league championship one week to Dec. 12 to accommodate the Troy-ULM reschedule and any other future games that need to be rescheduled for the conference.

Veterans Memorial Stadium will operate under a reduced capacity for the 2020 season and the only way to guarantee a seat is to purchase season tickets. Each week any remaining tickets will be sold at the beginning of the week.
