Senior Day ended up being a rough one for the Troy Trojans (5-6, 3-4) falling 45-7 to the Appalachian State Mountaineers (9-2, 6-1) on Nov. 20.
After jumping out to an early 7-3 lead, Troy was outscored 42-0 for the remainder of the game. Appalachian State jumped out 3-0 early with a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter, but Troy responded when quarterback Gunnar Watson found receiver Deshon Stoudemire for a 37-yard touchdown pass to put Troy ahead 7-3 with 6:15 left in the first quarter.
Appalachian State quarterback Brice Chase threw three touchdowns in the second and third quarters. Running backs Daetrich Harrington, Jahmir Smith and Nate Noel also scored short touchdown runs. The Mountaineers outgained the Trojans 445-142 as they won in dominant fashion. The Trojans could muster just 33 yards on the ground, while Appalachian State rolled up 233 yards rushing.
Watson completed 11-of-21 pass attempts for 109 yards, one touchdown and an interception, while Tez Johnson caught four passes for 44 yards.
Carlton Martial led the Troy defense with 19 tackles, while KJ Robertson recorded seven tackles, one tackle-for-loss and an interception.
Troy has just one game left on its schedule, Nov. 27 against Georgia State on the road, and the Trojans need to win that game to become bowl eligible.
