Enterprise senior Ryan Page closed out his final regular season home game in style with a game-winning walk-off homerun that lifted the Enterprise Wildcats (17-16, 7-0) over Prattville 4-3 on Tuesday, April 16.
Enterprise and Prattville dueled it out in the first inning with each side scoring two runs and then Prattville took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning.
Neither team was able to get back on the scoreboard until Enterprise’s Gabe Anderson drove senior Grant Thornton home for the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score to 3-3.
Neither team was able to score in the seventh inning, and the Wildcat defense took care of business in the top of the eighth inning with three straight outs.
Then, Page stepped to the plate as Enterprise’s first batter in the bottom of the eighth and blistered a line drive homerun into left field to secure the win and keep the Wildcats undefeated in area play.
Anderson and Connor Couch both went 2-for-3 at the plate with Anderson securing two RBIs.
Page, Connor Purvis and Colin Marsh each had one hit, while Purvis and Page scored one run each. Thornton scored two runs.
Defensively Page, Couch and Anderson each had a double play.
McCain Sieving toed the rubber for six and 2/3 innings with three strikeouts while giving up six hits and three runs. Drew Williams pitched one and 1/3 inning with three strikeouts along with two hits and no runs.
That win came off the heels of a disappointing 11-9 loss to Providence Christian at home on April 15.
Providence dominated the first two innings scoring three runs in each inning and two more in the top of the third inning to jump ahead 8-0.
Enterprise managed one run in the bottom of the third inning but exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 8-6.
In the fifth inning Enterprise moved ahead with three more runs to take a 9-8 lead into the sixth inning.
Providence answered with three runs of their own in the sixth and went ahead 11-9. The Wildcats were unable to score in the seventh inning and fell 11-9.
Thornton had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a walk.
Lance Levine, Couch and Purvis each had two hits, while Dyar Thompson, Anderson, Hunter Sumrall and Tyler Byrd had one hit each.
Couch and Dalton Price scored two runs, while Purvis, Anderson, Williams and Byrd scored one run each.
On the defensive side Couch had two double plays, while Marsh, Thompson and Anderson had one each.
Dylan Dalrymple pitched four inning snad struck out two batters while giving up three hits and four runs.
Cole Hooper pitched one inning and had one strikeout. He also gave up three hits and five runs.
Kobe Williams struck out one batter in one inning along with giving up one hit and one run.
Ben Bailey gave up no hits or runs in one inning on the mound.
