The new upstart Enterprise State volleyball program got its first commitment from a hometown player last week as Enterprise High School senior Kayden Taylor signed her letter-of-intent with the school.

Taylor earned a team-high 416 serve aces and 73 assists along with 149 digs as a senior in 2021.

Staying home in Enterprise was a big part of Taylor’s decision to sign with the Lady Weevils.

“I was just really comfortable staying at home and Enterprise is such a great community and all the people are so welcoming,” Taylor said. “It’s exciting to be a part of a new team and make some history there, too.”

ESCC volleyball coach Vanessa Howell – who also played in college and professionally – also played a part in her decision.

“I’ve only heard great things about her and she was so welcoming from the start,” Taylor said. “I just know she is going to take me very far.”

Taylor said her main goal for college is to be able to continue playing at a four-year school after completing her time at ESCC.

“Hopefully I can make it somewhere else after my two years (at ESCC) and I just want to be able to grow as a player and continue to play in college,” she said.

Taylor emphasized that she couldn’t have made it as far as she has so far without her coaches and teammates at EHS.

“They have been nothing but encouraging and I never would have made it as far as I have without them,” she said. “It’s been nothing but support from them.”
