Marcus Hornsby Award

On hand for the Marcus Hornsby Award were, from left, Ken Mitchell, Tomar Hobdy, Marcus Hornsby’s mother Tina Williams, LaTisa Hornsby White, Corcelia Hornsby Lampley, Elijah Terry, Quentin Hayes and Marcus Hornsby. Matthew Reed was unable to attend.

The Enterprise Wildcat basketball team honored it’s 7A state championship team with a banquet at the Enterprise Country Club on Monday, May 16.

All of the varsity players were awarded with a 20-page scrapbook assembled specifically for each player that started from the area tournament through the championship game and celebratory photos. In addition, the varsity players and managers each received an autographed state championship basketball, a poster of the team at the end of the state championship game with their hats, trophy, cheerleaders and coaches.

“This year was such a total team and collective effort, we couldn’t give individual awards,” said head coach Rhett Harrelson, “because we could have had a number of players to be the offensive MVP and defensive MVP, could have been most improved. It was just a total team effort all the way across the board from our varsity to our JV to ninth-grade teams.”

Dr. James Reese was the guest speaker. He gave some Enterprise basketball history and talked about how proud he was and there isn’t a bigger Enterprise Wildcat than he is.

The Marcus Hornsby Award is a special award that is usually given to one senior that exemplifies hard work in the classroom and the court. The award was given to all the seniors including Elijah Terry, Tomar Hobdy, Ken Mitchell, Quentin Hayes and Matthew Reed.

The only other award given was the Hard Hat Awards. Hobdy and Damorion Jones received this award.

A video has been posted on YouTube for the public to view of the run to the championship. It can be found at https://bit.ly/386UHMe.
