Editor's note : Brendan Franco passed on Thursday at 7:58 p.m. The family has asked that the community see an even greater need for the event to continue and remember Brendan's wishes in support of T-cell research and curing cancer.
Friends of Brendan Franco are sponsoring a “BFF 5K Cross Country Run and Fun Walk,” in memory of Brendan, Saturday, Sept. 22, at BamaJam Farms.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the run starts at 8 a.m. The race begins and ends of the sixth hole of the golf course and winds down through the trails at the Farms. Top three winners in age divisions 9 and under; 10-14; 15-19; 20-30; 31-49; and 50 and up will win various prizes.
First place winners in each division win an all access armband to the Championship Mud Racing Event that begins at 1 p.m. that afternoon at BamaJam Farms. A minimum $10 registration fee is required. Donations, of any amount, are appreciated.
If you prepay through event brite online at, brendanfranco.eventbrite.com, one ticket is $11.54. A list of all prepaid participants will be at registration that morning and will expedite the process. The morning of the race, participants will enter the park in Gate 2 off of Boy Scout Road. Follow the signs to the parking area and then to the golf course. Awards will be handed out immediately following the race.
Those participating in the fun walk can take their time and enjoy the scenery. For more information, call Kim Lewis at 334-477-1108. All funds will be donated to the Brendan Franco Foundation to fulfill Brendan’s wish to further develop T-cell cancer research for children in Alabama.
If enough money is raised, trials are expected to begin by the end of this year. This community has the opportunity to be a part of curing the first child of cancer in the state.
