The first game in franchise history was a win for the newest NBA G-League team as the Birmingham Squadron (2-0) defeated the Greensboro Swarm on the road 128-117 on Nov. 5.
The two sides met again the next day with Birmingham once again going out on top 97-94 on Nov. 6. Alabama and Auburn fans that took the game in will have seen some familiar faces as former Auburn star Jared Harper and Alabama’s John Petty Jr. not only started for the Squadron, but both stood out in both games.
Harper led all scorers in the first game with 35 points and six assists, while Petty filled up the stat sheet with seven points, six steals, five assists and six rebounds. Joe Young added 30 points for Birmingham, as well.
In the second game against the Swarm, Harper again led the way with 27 points and five assists, while Petty totaled 12 points, three steals, three assists and five rebounds. Malcolm Hill also chipped in with 19 points and nine rebounds as all five Birmingham starters ended up scoring double digits. The Squadron remain on the road Nov. 12-13 with a pair of games against the Texas Legends.
