CCCD monthly board meeting set for Aug. 13

Coffee County Conservation District will hold its monthly board meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Coffee County Commission Room in New Brockton at 10 a.m. The number of people is limited that can be in the room so those planning to attend should call (334) 894-5581X3.

Friends of the EPL extends mini book sale

The Friends of the Enterprise Public Library has extended the Summer Mini Book Sale in the Daily Deals section through the end of August. All items in Daily Deals priced 50¢ and up will be reduced. Price lists will be posted in the Daily Deals section as well as downstairs with the library staff.

Don’t miss the summer time savings on popular fiction and nonfiction hardback and paperbacks for children, junior, young adult, and adults. Be sure and check out the large collection of home school resources.

DVDs, music CDs, and books on CD are also available, all at amazingly low prices. Located on the second floor of the library, the Daily Deals section is available to shoppers during normal library operating hours. Money raised by the Friends’ book sales helps to fund library projects such as the Large Print book subscription program.

‘The stakes at the gate’ Aug. 22

The public is invited to attend a mayoral candidate forum Saturday, Aug. 22, at the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 2003 Union Hall on in Daleville.

The event is from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and begins with incumbent Daleville Mayor Jayme Stayton and challenger Charlie Wigglesworth addressing the audience at 11:30 a.m. City of Elba mayoral candidates Chelsea Cooper, Tim Johnson and Tom Maddox will address the audience beginning at 12:30 p.m. Ozark incumbent Mayor Bob Bunting and challengers Chaddwick Crews, Dion Richardson and Mark Blankenship will speak beginning at 1:45 p.m. Incumbent Enterprise Mayor Bill Cooper and challengers Bill Baker, Lister Reeves and Perry Vickers will address the audience at 3:30 p.m.

DAV Chapter helps veterans

DAV Chapter 9 Enterprise-Coffee County, 704 Crawford Street, Enterprise, helps veterans with claims Monday-Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Call (334) 308-2480 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

 

CCAA to suspend 2020-21 season

Due to the ongoing concerns and uncertainties related to COVID-19, the Coffee County Arts Alliance Board of Directors has voted to suspend the 2020-2021 concert series. The board has the safety of its members and the public as its top priority and is working diligently to provide an exciting 2021-2022 season. The Piney Woods Arts Festival is still on schedule for April 10-11, 2021.

 

Christian Mission drive-through food distribution

The Christian Mission Centers began drive-thru food distributions schedule is as follows: 231 Geneva Highway in Enterprise Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 until 5 p.m.; 801 East Town Avenue in Geneva Tuesdays from 1 until 5 p.m.; and at 342 North Court Street in Elba Thursdays from 1 until 5 p.m.

Recipients may receive one box per week and up two gallons of milk. All Center for Disease Control-mandated social distancing guidelines will be followed.

 

Chapter 9 DAV meets monthly

Enterprise Chapter 9 of the Disabled American Veterans has monthly meetings at Po Folks Restaurant, 650 Boll Weevil Circle, Enterprise. The meeting is held the second Thursday each month and starts at 6:30 p.m. Come at 6 p.m. to eat prior to the meeting. All pre-retirement active duty and veterans are encouraged to attend. For information concerning the meeting contact DAV office at 334-308-2480 or 802-238-3433. The DAV Claims Office operates from 8 to 11 a.m., Monday through Thursday each week.

 

DAV service office open

Each Tuesday and Wednesday, except on national holidays, from 9 to 11 a.m., DAV Chapter #99 maintains a service office in the New Brockton Town Hall (Old Armory building) located at 706 McKinnon Street. This office will assist veterans who were injured or disabled while in military service. DAV service officers help veterans and their spouses with disability compensation claims, VA pension, death benefits, VA medical care, Socials Security disability benefits, veterans’ job programs, homeless veterans assistance at no charge.
